The George Washington Colonials held an early lead but were no match in the second half for the Temple Owls in a 57-41 loss.

George Washington actually took a three-point lead into the locker room and looked poised to spring the upset.

The second half was a totally different story, as the Colonials scored just two points over the final 11 minutes of the game.

George Washington shot just over 18 percent from the field in the second half, and that won’t get the job done against anyone.

Head coach Karl Hobbs said after the game that Temple’s defense was fantastic in the second half and that they were the best team they had played this year.

It seems like it was decades ago when the George Washington Colonials last reached the NCAA tournament. In actuality, it was only a few years ago, but the Colonials have really fallen off the national map in a hurry.

Head coach Karl Hobbs was considered a hot candidate for nearly every open job, but now his name is hardly mentioned. In way, that’s good news for George Washington, but it also signals that the program has taken a step back.

It seemed like Hobbs was well on his way to creating a program similar to the one built by Mike Jarvis in the 90’s, but has been unable to sustain the success.
